Abstract: |
Archaeological evidence of a revetted lake or sump was discovered during the evaluation at the rear of 6-12 Northbrook Street, confirming the evidence provided by 19th century maps. A palaeochannel previously assumed to cross the site was located and sampled. A 'water bottle', a 19th century brick subterranean structure designed to maintain access to the water table via a pump-pipe and ensure less water contamination from the soil was excavated and was likely to relate to the 19th century house known as The Elms/Marsh House. No features of archaeological potential were found during the evaluation. [Au(adp)] |
