Abstract: |
A preliminary assessment of the archaeological history of the 'Pixies Mound' or Wick Barrow site, and other recorded archaeological sites and findspots within the area proposed for a new visitor centre at Hinkley Point, was undertaken. The excavated evidence suggested that the barrow may have had Neolithic origins, and contained an unusual form of mortuary enclosure. The site was also used for burial in the Early Bronze Age and may have been disturbed in the Romano-British period. An extensive pattern of overlapping enclosures and other features was also noted in the area. [Au(abr)] |
