Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a residential development identified that possible Mesolithic flints and further flint implements had been found in the surrounding area, and that ring ditches and a rectangular enclosure had been identified from aerial photographs. A medieval church to the east of the site had been mainly rebuilt in 1845, although a 12th century chancel survived. Cartographic evidence indicated that the site had remained as undeveloped arable land until the late 19th century. Much of it appeared to have escaped development to the extent that any archaeological evidence which may have existed would have been destroyed. It was recommended that trial trenching should be carried out prior to the commencement of construction work. [AIP] |
