Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken prior to the proposed extension to the present store. The proposal site lay within the historic late Saxon and medieval city and deposits of medieval date had been recorded from within the site. Both of the properties on Market Street had basements occupying the whole of the street frontage. This suggested that any archaeological deposits in these locations would have been largely removed. The basements did not cover the whole of the footprint of the properties. It was possible, therefore, that archaeological deposits of late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval date may have survived in these areas. [Au(abr)] |
