Abstract: |
An archaeological survey, comprising fieldwalking, magnetometer, earthwork and metal detector surveys, was undertaken to evaluate the archaeological implications and constraints along the proposed route of the A422 Farthington bypass. Worked flints of Neolithic and Bronze Age types were recovered from two cropmark sites which comprised rectilinear enclosures, ring-ditches and parallel ditches. Two known earthwork sites were investigated, one being shown to represent the remains of limestone quarries whilst the second, a linear bank, was found to no longer survive as an earthwork. Manuring scatters of medieval and post-medieval pottery were also recovered and traces of ridge and furrow earthworks identified. [AIP] |
