Abstract: |
The archaeological desk top study identified the complexity of the development of settlement at Cawood from the early medieval period onwards. In particular, the potential for survival of significant medieval to post-medieval waterfront structures and deposits at Cawood were noted. The proposed work of enhancement of the existing Ouse bank embankment was judged likely to impinge on these potential remains and an archaeological watching brief to monitor the proposed work on this section was recommended. The topping up of embankments and the creation of a new embankment along the southern boundaries of properties in church end could disturb remains of earlier field boundaries, but did not warrant archaeological monitoring.
