Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was undertaken in order to determine the potential for archaeological remains on the site known as Cross Levels Way, Eastbourne, East Sussex. The application area was approximately 2.6ha in size and was in use as arable farmland. The site consisted of a field, which was roughly rectangular in shape and aligned east-west to the north of Cross Levels Way. The proposed development comprised four office buildings and possibly a small lake. Car parking and a new road would also have been constructed. The evidence from the Historic Environment Records and previous work in the area suggested that there was a high potential for remains from the Bronze Age and a moderate to high potential for remains from other periods.
