Abstract: |
Three trial trenches were excavated along the southern boundary of the churchyard in advance of the re-construction of a collapsed wall. All three trenches revealed the former ground surface of the churchyard, dating to at least the 18th century and buried beneath up to 1m of rubble contaminated soils. An upright gravestone was exposed in one trench, beneath which two graves were located, each containing an articulated human skeleton. Pottery recovered from the buried ancient soil, into which the graves had been dug, dated to the 12th-13th centuries. [Au(abr)] |
