Abstract: |
<summary>Trial-trenching was undertaken in advance of a housing development on the farm site. This is reputed to be the site of a Roman camp and three sides of a possible enclosure can be traced. Antiquarian accounts also place a mound and a "triple entrenchment" in the area, but these seem to be linked with the 17th century predecessor of Hall Hill and could be a dovecote and part of a strip-cultivation system. Only one feature was revealed during the evaluation, a pit containing the remains of a sheep. Medieval and post-medieval pottery was recovered. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
