Abstract: |
Between February and September 2006, a watching brief was maintained during groundworks associated with a proposed water quality improvement scheme. Together with a small quantity if residual material, the work identified remains from two periods, prehistoric and post-medieval. The prehistoric remains comprised two scatters of worked flint and chert of probably Neolithic and Bronze Age origin from near St Catherine's Hill reservoir, and a small quantity of unstratified probably EBA flintwork from Chale Green. The post-medieval remains consisted of two areas of hard standing and three associated post holes that probably represented the site of a perhaps late 16th to mid 17th century farm building behind "The Old Rectory" on Chale Street.
