Abstract: |
An evaluation was conducted in advance of a proposed residential development. No evidence for a Roman road or vicus was located in the evaluation. Cut features were recorded but it was not possible to establish the nature and function of the cut features at the southern end of Trench 2. They clearly were of antiquity, being sealed by the medieval ridge and furrow. The earliest if it did indeed represent a ditch, at a width of 3.50m, would have been a significant feature in the landscape and merits further investigation. It was recommended that an area was excavated in the immediate vicinity of these features to establish their nature, date and extent. [Au(abr)] |
