Abstract: |
A field evaluation was carried out in advance of a proposed two storey dwelling. Scheduled Monument Consent was obtained due to the northern part of the development site laying within the scheduled area of Salmonsbury Camp (SAM 32392). No evidence for features associated with the defensive works of the Camp were recorded, but other features cut into the natural gravel were recorded. These included the butt end of two gullies, both with possible evidence for post holes cut into the base, and a third shallow gully. There was evidence for an upcast bank associated with the third gully. These features were all sealed by the remains of a medieval/post-medieval substantial layer. [AIP] |
