Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of an office building identified that it lay just beyond the limits of the medieval town of Chertsey. Rocque's map of 1768 may have shown a building on the proposal site, but later maps indicated that it was unoccupied. The Rocque map may, therefore, have indicated a short-lived expansion of the town into this area. The front part of the proposal site was considered to have a moderate to high archaeological potential, although it was likely to have been disturbed by the construction of 'Two Bridges'. The potential towards the rear of the site was considered to be low. It was recommended that a watching brief should be carried out during topsoil stripping and ground disturbance associated with the development. [Au(adp)] |
