Abstract: |
Desk-top study of a proposed gas pipeline route identified that prehistoric evidence within the study corridor was sparse, but that Roman activity was indicated by a number of sites, including two roads, two villa sites, a marching camp, and a possible ditched enclosure. Three deserted medieval settlement sites lay near the pipeline corridor, as did other buildings, moated sites and two small industrial sites of this period. Post-medieval development of the region had been relatively limited. The proposed route crossed a number of features, including parish boundaries, areas of ridge and furrow, and the route of a post-medieval aqueduct. [Au(adp)] |
