Abstract: |
The work was carried out in advance of a major renovation of the monument, which was said to be commemorative of a horse, allegedly buried beneath the mound. The monument was renovated in the 19th century, but its origin has been uncertain. The limited scale of the excavation was unable to fully ascertain its origin, but it was thought that it was unlikeky to have been built before the 18th century, most probably in two phases.
