Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was undertaken prior to development on the site, which was located at the head of a deep valley thought to have been an important north-south communication route. Part of a smallholding in 1839 and cultivated throughout the 19th century, this land was designated for commercial development in the 1930s. Since then it has been developed and redeveloped. Little of archaeological interest was known of in the immediate vicinity of the site, possibly due to lack of systematic fieldwork in the area. As a result it was difficult to assess the likelihood of archaeological remains on the site. Although the potential for archaeology on an important route can be high the current evidence suggests a low to moderate potential. The condition of any archaeological remains was likely to have been adversely affected by previous development. [Au(adp)] |
