Abstract: |
A single trench was excavated to evaluate a site proposed for the construction of townhouses. Desk-based assessment had suggested that the line of the 17th century Civil War defences probably crossed the site. The trench revealed the foundations of the front wall and cellar of 51 Kingsdown Parade, which had been constructed in the mid 18th century, a 19th century pit in the garden, and demolition deposits associated with the demolition of the building in the 1940's. No trace of the Civil War defences was identified. [AIP] |
