Abstract: |
Two watching briefs were carried out during repairs at different points along York City walls. The work involved the removal of the flagged surface of the walkway and the subsequent excavation of the fill to allow the insertion of metal tie bars. The first watching brief (at chainage 2272-2300) observed brickwork of uncertain function, possibly part of a repair or alternatively the remains of an interval tower. The second watching brief (at chainage 3200-3240.8) encountered only rubble dumps of uncertain, possibly 19th century, date. [Au(abr)] |
