Abstract: |
An earlier survey by S Bassett and C Dyer had previously confirmed the existence of a hillfort (HWCM 815) on the summit of Church Hill, although its extent was unresolved to the south of St Mary's Church. Excavations were made prior to a small development in an area which would affect this site, and were close to a medieval church (HWCM 814), a Saxon minster (HWCM 7129), and the remains of medieval agricultural activity (HWCM 11751). The salvage recording suggests that the southern hillfort rampart does not lie on the crest of the hill to the south of the existing churchyard.[AIP] |
