Abstract: |
There were no known archaeological sites within the development area but there were several recorded in the near vicininty. The site lay in a segment of the Thames Valley rich in archaeological finds and deposits of many periods. It also encompassed a distinct topographic element, occupying an elevated position across a generally level landscape. Hilltop and ridge situations were favoured locations for prehistoric and later activity. The survey of the cartographic source showed that the site was already occupied in 1729 and it was possible, therefore, that the site of the earlier house may have had late medieval origins.
