Abstract: |
The watching brief and associated rescue excavation revealed an interesting range of features of various types and dates. The earliest features were two pits with ritual deposits of antler in their bases. Both pits probably dated to the Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age. A child burial could also have belonged to this period, though it may have dated to later in prehistory. Most of the other features on the site, including at least one of the large pits, the multi-post structure, ditch and a cross-shaped complex of features were thought to have dated to the Late Bronze Age. There then appeared to be a hiatus in activity/occupation at the site until the Late Iron Age/early Romano-British period, which was represented by ditches, post holes and pits. [Au(adp)] |
