Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out within an area where the remains of Wrenthorpe's pottery industry were known to exist. Pottery kilns had been recorded on the eastern side of Wrenthorpe Road and dumps of wasters were thought to extend down to and along the eastern side of Foster Ford Beck. Deposits encountered below the modern layers were interpreted as dumps of waste material from pottery kilns. Pottery fragments of the kiln waste found in the deposits were fragments of Black wares and dated the deposit to the late 17th and 18th centuries. They included fragments of a sagger. [Au(adp)] |
