Abstract: |
Archaeological evaluation by means of a single machine-stripped trench was carried out on the site of a proposed churchyard extension at Steeple Ashton in March 1996. No archaeological features were present within the area examined, and only three sherds of undiagnostic - but probably late 12th or 13th century - pottery were recovered from the base of the topsoil. The evaluation provided no evidence for any Late Saxon or medieval occupation or other activity in this part of the village. [Au] |
