Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken at Sky House, Stonehenge Road, Amesbury. Three machine-excavated trenches were dug in the approximate locations of the intended buildings. No archaeological features were encountered, and only six worked flints and a piece or probable Roman tile were recovered from the topsoil. A brief consideration of the adjacent topography allowed the possibility that some levelling or terracing had occurred within the site, but the presence of subsoil above chalk bedrock in one part of one of the trenches implied that any truncation was not uniform across the development area.
