Abstract: |
Two sherds of medieval pottery were found in the subsoil layer on the site. An early 19th century feature beside the northern site boundary contained possible evidence of a collapsed adjacent stone wall. This was probably a ditch, but could have been a hollow way extending from Sea View Street towards the shore. A small area of later cobbling lay above the backfilled feature. A mortared stone rubble wall fragment survived beside North Street, those were not on the alignment of existing boundaries and may have been contemporary with the ditch. There was no evidence that this site had been developed before the 18th century. [Au] |
