Abstract: |
<summary>Salvage recording was carried out during the course of groundworks for the construction of an extension to St Oswald's Almshouses, Worcester. An archaeological evaluation carried out in 1990 had revealed the presence of a medieval graveyard, a stone structure associated with the 15th century hospital, demolition debris associated with the Dissolution, and a post-medieval graveyard of the 17th to 19th centuries. This project complemented the information provided by the archaeological evaluation. It provided evidence of the ground-plan of medieval buildings on the site. Further decorated floor tiles provided evidence for the status and development of medieval buildings on the site. Reused Norman and 12th century stone mouldings recovered from the fabric of the walls provided evidence for the dates of earlier buildings on the site. The rapidity of recording and foundation excavation required by the work programme precluded further examination of the early medieval cemetery identified by the evaluation. {italon}Au{italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} HWCM9931 |
