Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken at a site at Nelson Street, Otley. As the trenches were excavated, many of the material encountered were very recent layers associated with demolition activity and the creation of a modern car park. However, the watching brief revealed the presence of some well-preserved early modern archaeological features, including sandstone foundation walls, cellars, a culvert and a cobbled yard. Two sandstone walls within Trench 2 may have been early modern, although one appeared to have been subsequently reused. There were also three features likely to date from the 12th to the 14th century. These medieval features were cut directly into the surface of the natural boulder clay. [Au(abr)] |
