Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of a proposed development site identified that thousands of flint artefacts of Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age date had been recovered from the site, along with sherds of Roman pottery. The finds incuded 45-50 scrapers, arrowheads, part of a polished stone axe and 3-4000 waste flakes. Further flints, two bell barrows and a possible disc barrow had been recorded in the surrounding area, and the site of a mill lay nearby. It was concluded that the site had considerable archaeological potential, and that trial trenching should be undertake prior to the commencement of construction work. [AIP] |
