Abstract:
A watching brief was carried out during the construction of a replacement pipeline and a pumping station. Two areas along the route had been identified as being of archaeological significance, as they passed close to archaeological constraint areas. An additional 2km of pipeline were also inspected, as a result of route changes. During the watching brief, very little archaeological evidence was observed. Where the pipeline crossed a hollow way at a field boundary, no artefacts were recovered, but it was noted that a ditch may have existed prior to the construction of the bank. Medieval and post-medieval tile and post-medieval pottery were recovered along one stretch of the pipeline, and a small number of struck flints were found. A possible infilled pond containing post-medieval bricks was recorded. [AIP]
