Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken and consisted of seven trenches. The site lay on the conjectured line of a known Roman road identified form aerial photography and archaeological fieldwork on the north and south of the site. Trenches identified that previously recorded features on a geophysical survey were geological in origin. Two post-medieval/early modern boundary ditches were noted within Trench 6. No other archaeological features/deposits were identified. The route of the Roman road may have been further east within the site, an area likely to be examined by a second phase of evaluation.
