Abstract: |
The evaluation was carried out on the site of the proposed food store, close to the Parish Church, and coincided with a postulated medieval enclosure. In the first stage of evaluation, four trial trenches were excavated outside of the shoe factory (built in 1854) and a single test pit was excavated within the factory itself to test the underlying deposits. No surviving deposits of medieval or earlier date were discovered in any of the interventions. Evidence for extensive ground disturbance relating to post-medieval quarrying was encountered in the north of the proposed development area. [Au(abr)] |
