Abstract: |
Test-pitting was undertaken to further refine the information provided by fieldwalking carried out during the first stage evaluation. In particular it confirmed the status of three of the clusters and provided additional information on their chronology. The two other clusters identified by the fieldwalking were less well defined and the test-pitting did not enhance their status. It was not certain that they represented occupation sites and, whilst reflecting prehistoric activity in the area, their apparent clustering may have been a statistical effect of dispersal by subsequent cultivation. In contrast, the first three clusters appeared to reflect the presence of occupation sites of Late Bronze Age date. [Au(abr)] |
