Abstract: |
The results of the investigation revealed that the site had been artificially stepped back into the natural bedrock of the northern bank of the River Wear to produce a series of level terraces on which the earlier industries sat. These terraces were retained by stone walls, and rebuilding, especially in the modern era, has removed nearly all traces of former buildings and works. [Au(abr)] |
