Abstract: |
A rapid archaeological earthwork survey of forestry compartments in West Stow was carried out, in order to identify any earthworks which would be affected by and would require protection from the planned programme of de-stumping. No significant earthworks were observed. The linear bank seen in 5325b was a former ride marked on the current OS map and continued through a gap in the trees to the east. It did however originate from an earlier boundary shown on the first edition OS as seperating West Stow Heath from open fields and it was suggested thatcare should be taken during the de-stumping process to cause minimum of damage to the bank.
