Abstract:
<summary>A study area was defined extending approximately 500m either side of the proposed Kidderminster, Blakedown and Hagley By-Pass and A449 Link. The study area of both routes passed through particularly sensitive areas of the archaeological landscape. Mesolithic and other prehistoric sites were known to exist within the study area, as well as those of Saxon, medieval and post-medieval date. One Scheduled Ancient Monument would be affected by the proposed route of the by-pass: Wychbury hillfort (HWCM339; West Midlands County Monument No 7). The proposed by-pass route also approached the site of the Low Hill barrow cemetery (HWCM134), intersected with the important Roman road between Greensforge and Droitwich (HWCM3152), and cut through the preserved medieval landscape of the Hagley estate. On the A449 Link interest focused on the potential for prehistoric, Roman and medieval sites. Evaluation, including survey and excavation, was recommended to provide more detailed information on selected areas where there were sites of known or potential significance. A brief was also presented for consideration. {italon}Au(?abr){italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} HWCM various
