Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of a proposed development site identified that a Mesolithic tranchet axe and part of a polished flint axe had previously been found within the site, and that prehistoric flint arrowheads, a Neolithic axe and Romano-British pottery had been recorded within a 500m radius. An excavation in the immediate vicinity had revealed features interpreted as part of a fairly modest rural settlement, occupied between AD 50 and AD 90. Struck flints had also been found at this site. It was concluded that the proposal site had a high archaeological potential; trial trenching was recommended. [AIP] |
