Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring was undertaken on the soil stripping of the proposed farm reservoir site. During an earlier evaluation, five ditches had been identified. Of these, two were relocated in the area strip. Neither feature produced any artefactual evidence. In addition, two hitherto unrecorded ditches were identified. Artefactual evidence of decorated Early Bronze Age Beaker pottery and one struck flint was recovered from one of the ditches. A shallow pit was also identified towards the north-west corner of the stripped area. No artefactual evidence was recovered from this feature. The identified features formed part of cropmark complexes which were widely known in the area. These represented field systems and other land divisions of varying date (prehistoric- to post-medieval). Evidence from the monitoring suggested that at least one component of these cropmark complexes was of Bronze Age date. [Au(adp)] |
