Abstract: |
A desk based assessment of 111-117 Northumberland Street was undertaken prior to redevelopment. The site showed quite considerable archaeological potential as the west side of it was an important early suburb, there being housing present on the site from at least the early 17th century. The proximity of the site to the medieval hospital of St. Mary Magdalene was also noted, as the location of the burial ground had yet to be located archaeologically. Remains associated with the Haymarket or its postulated medieval predecessor may also have been present. Further archaeological work was recommended. [AIP] |
