Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out on a plot of land that had been allocated for residential development in the Draft Local Plan. The evaluation consisted of a systematic trenching of the site and an archive search. Cut features of medieval date were found, but not in any great abundance. A structure was suggested by the features, but the meagre finds collection suggested that it was not the site of a dwelling. Much of the Church Road frontage was occupied by an infilled pond, and it was within this area that buildings would most likely have existed. It was considered probable that the site had always been garden and fields. [AIP] |
