Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed a continuation of the archaeological features of the medieval settlement in the area to the west. This includes the eastern half of a moat and a series of ditches which appeared to define elements of enclosure systems. Associated activity included cobbled surfaces and substantial pits which contained a variety of artefacts mostly dating to the 12th-15th centuries. In contrast, the northern half of the site contained a small quantity of Iron Age artefacts as well as extensive Roman activity including its ditches and a variety of surfaces including both cobbling and fine metalling. An extensive assemblage of Roman artefacts was recovered from these deposits. [Au(abr)] |
