Abstract: |
Both the previous evaluation of the site, and the recent watching brief, produced important evidence for the alignment and location of Hadrian's Wall and associated defensive features; including the possible location of the site of Turret 2a, suggested by the alignment of the Roman defensive pits observed in Trench 2. Hadrian's Wall would have been located within Trench 1, had not the ground levels been severely terraced into from the post-medieval period. The location of the defensive pits and the Wall Ditch, observed during the works, represented a major contribution to the knowledge and understanding of Hadrian's Wall on Tyneside. [Au(adp)] |
