Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on groundworks involved in the creation of an all-weather sports surface. No features of archaeological interest were identified, but a number of finds were recovered, mainly from the spoil heap, which indicated some activity of prehistoric and later date within the area. The pieces of struck flint recovered were indicative of a low level of activity of Mid to Late Bronze Age date. The fragments of burnt flint were also evidence for prehistoric activity. The other finds, which included a Roman pot sherd, the lava quernstone fragments and the medieval/post-medieval tile fragments were probably the result of manuring the fields. [Au(adp)] |
