Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, consisting of the excavation of seven 3m by 2m test pits, was undertaken in advance of proposals to redevelop the site. The evaluation examined anomalies revealed during an earlier geophysical survey of the site, which suggested that Roman kilns found in the vicinity might also have continued into the site itself. No archaeological features were identified and the anomalies were interpreted as being produced by the presence of modern garden burning, builders' waste dumps and buried modern ferrous objects.
