Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during topsoil and overburden stripping and ground reduction at the site of a new dwelling in Arkley. The place-name of Arkley may have dated from the Saxon period, although references to it dated from the 14th century onwards. Industrial activity may have been present in the vicinity, medieval pottery kilns and brick clay quarries having existed in the area. During the watching brief, no archaeological features or artefacts were observed. [AIP] |
