Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during the groundworks for a residential development. Most of the area was found to be devoid of features or finds of archaeological interest. One area was of particular archaeological interest. This lay around the remains of a 16th or early 17th century mansion which may have replaced an earlier building. The recent work suggested that the mansion did not extend as far south as previously thought. A terrace with associated ditch may have been related to a late medieval building. The terrace was infilled in the 16th century. This may have been the result of the demolition of the medieval building and its replacement with a new larger dwelling/mansion at this point. [Au] |
