Abstract: |
An archaeological desk based assessment and field evaluation was undertaken on land in response to a planning application for the construction of a golf course. Consulation of archaeological, documentary and cartographic archives indicated that whilst no archaeological sites were known within the application area the site did lie in an area of potential archaeological interest. Several prehistoric findspots lay in the vicinity of the site, this, set within the context of extensive known prehistoric activity within the Upper Plym valley, suggested that similar remains may have been present within the site. The field evaluation revealed three linear ditches and one pit. These could not be accurately dated but given the small sample area excavated, it was likely that more features of archaeological interest would survive within that part of the study area. [AIP] |
