Abstract: |
The Stratton Residential Development Area was located over the known site of a Saxon and medieval settlement. The Local Centre was subject to an evaluation, which demonstrated Saxon and medieval settlement, continued into the proposed development area. Archaeological remains extended over c. 90%of the area and the County Archaeological Officer advised that this should be investigated by open area excavation. The majority of the data recovered represented the northern extent of the Saxon and medieval settlement. This was important in this own right, but the Local Centre also 'joined up' two previous areas of excavation: the Leisure Pool and the Chambers Way roundabout. The data would contribute to several of the original research objectives identified for the settlement as a while. [Au(abr)] |
