Abstract
Bronze Age lead mines at Copa Hill, Cwmyswyth -- fact or fantasy?
Timothy M Mighall
Simon Timberlake
John P Grattan
S Fortsyth
1 - 12
A short review of archaeological evidence and geochemical data obtained from blanket peat near the Bronze Age mines, which considers whether the metal extracted from the ore was copper or lead. It was found that there was an increase in copper residue in the Bronze Age, while traces of lead remained at relatively low levels. It is therefore considered that the mines were worked for the extraction of copper rather than lead.
