Abstract: |
A programme of geophysical survey and trial trenching was carried out to locate any remains in Chapel Field, Westerton Farm. A cropmark of an enclosure, presumed to be Iron Age or medieval, had been noted in the north-eastern corner of the field so there was a reasonable chance of further archaeological remains within the field. The geophysical survey located a number of potentially archaeological anomalies, and these were investigated by trial trenches. Most of the anomalies were found to result from the field drainage system or to derive from the underlying geology. The cropmark was shown to be an enclosure ditch, while a second enclosure was found on the southern side of the field. |
