Abstract:
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by AOC Archaeology from the 24th to 25th October 2005 The Sir John Cass Foundation, Redcoat Church of England Secondary School, Stepney Way, in Stepney (NGR TQ 35880 81511), on behalf of CB Swift Ltd. Two trenches were excavated to characterise and evaluate the archaeological survival and stratigraphic sequence at the site. There was significant modern disturbance in the form of made ground and the remains of building demolition observed within the area of investigation. Pottery sherds dating to the early twentieth century were recovered from the demolition layers. No in situ archaeological remains were observed.
